Blanke Securmat is one of the strongest tile underlayments on the market. When they took the Securmat to the Tile Council of North America for testing it passed with flying colors receiving an "Extra Heavy Duty" rating which makes the Securmat good enough for Medium Industrial tile installations. Securmat offers a completely waterproofing membrane without the use of seam strip, simply overlap the product at the seams by 2 inches. Securmat is also a crack isolation membrane that will also protect against deflection. Most importantly, Securmat is an uncoupling membrane that will protect your tile surface from any cracking when there is movement.
ProVa Flex is used under tile and natural stone in light commercial and residential applications. It acts as an uncoupling membrane on all suitable substrates, and as a water vapor pressure equalization membrane against dampness in the substrate. ProVa Flex tile underlayment protects against dampness in the substrate, and is ready to tile immediately after installation.
Subfloors tend to move and crack over time, it's just natural. ProVa Flex, being the barrier between the subfloor and tiles, will not transfer any cracking to the tile itself. That is why it so important to invest in a quality underlayment.
Durock Ceramic Tile Underlayment is used under tile in light commercial and residential applications. It is ideal for floors and walls in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, and entryways.
The mold and mildew resistant membrane rolls out flat, without roll-back memory. Unlike most other underlayments, Durock will not curl up during installation. In addition, it is extremely easy to cut with a knife or scissors.
When used in conjunction with the Durock Ceramic Tile Underlayment Adhesive, an effective crack-isolation system is formed. If you do not need to use Durock for crack-isolation purposes, it can be installed using Type 1 organic adhesive or latex modified thin set mortar, however, installation with these products will not provide crack isolation.
